Urstaat Return With a Vocal Version That Hits Like a Warning Shot “Between the Sea and the Security Fence” Cuts Deeper Than Ever

Greek post-metal force Urstaat revisit one of their most harrowing compositions with a reimagined version of “Between the Sea and the Security Fence,” now featuring guest vocalist Kostis Benning. What was once a crushing instrumental has evolved into something far more confrontational, a track that doesn’t just carry weight, it speaks it.

Built on a foundation of dense stoner grooves and tectonic post-metal atmosphere, the song moves like a slow-burning collapse. The addition of vocals doesn’t soften the impact, it sharpens it. Each line lands with intent, turning the original’s cinematic tension into a direct and human voice that refuses to be ignored.

Lyrically, the track stands in stark confrontation with displacement, memory, and survival. Images of olive trees, open skies, and lost freedom collide with the brutal refrain: “Between the sea and the fence we are dead.” It’s not metaphor for the sake of art, it’s a statement that echoes lived reality, turning the song into both witness and resistance.

Urstaat channel groove metal’s physical force and post-metal’s expansive depth into something that feels both grounded and immense. The repetition of “We will rise again, freedom is our name” doesn’t come off as hollow optimism, it feels earned, defiant, and rooted in something deeper than sound.

This version doesn’t replace the original, it transforms it. With Kostis Benning’s presence, Urstaat push the track into new territory, where heaviness isn’t just sonic, it’s emotional and political.
