It's very important since we are based in the US and shipping fees from other regions are quite expensive. We've had local fans reaching out to us for some time for this release.
Veritas was founded around the concept of “truth,” which is reflected both in the band’s name and philosophy. How does this idea still influence your songwriting today?
We are still true to writing music that we enjoy. We aren't chasing trends or trying to write specific types of songs.
Greg, when you formed Veritas in 2012 with already more than twenty song ideas, did you have a clear musical vision for the band from the beginning?
I had a pretty clear idea what kind of band and members I was looking for. I know that chemistry between band members is just as important as the music. Egos always destroy a band. I've always loved classic heavy metal, progressive and that's the type of music that I wanted to play.
The Awen symbol became the band’s visual identity early on. What does this symbol represent for Veritas creatively and spiritually?
That's hard to answer. I was initially drawn to the symbol and the meaning of creativity. It just seemed to fit with the name Veritas and also helped us trademark the logo.
Building the lineup took time, especially finding the right drummer. How crucial was chemistry between members in shaping the Veritas sound?
Very important. I was looking for members with a lot of experience and really good at what they do musically. For some reason, finding musicians that want to do original music is a lot harder than I thought it would be. At least in the area I live. I may write the original melody but every member comes up with their own parts and everything just fits together perfectly.
After releasing your debut EP in 2019, what lessons did you carry into the creation of your first full-length album?
We definitely learned we needed more preparation before launching a cd. We were completely caught off guard how quickly demand for the cd would spread. We were still in the mixing/mastering phase and didn't have any cds pressed. We had just sent out a couple songs to get the music out and see what kind of reaction we would get. We learned that it's good to have about 6 months for promotion and reviews before launch. It also gives us time for preorders and to get the product made.
Signing a global distribution deal in 2020 allowed your music to reach international audiences. How did that moment change the band’s trajectory?
We were selling cds worldwide for the ep but the distribution deal helped me out tremendously because at the time I was the one packing and shipping all the cds myself. It allowed us to send the cds to a warehouse and have them pack and ship as needed. The distributor also helped with marketing and got us in the buyers publications to be carried in stores.
Silent Script was mixed in Minnesota and mastered in Sweden. How did working with international professionals influence the final sound of the album?
Silent Script was mixed and mastered by Daryl Bolicek at Wild Horse Studio in Minnesota. We did use Thomas Juth for DDR mastering for the cd release. He did also master our previous release Threads of Fatality and has done an amazing job with both.
The re-release through Wormholedeath presents Silent Script as an evolution of your earlier work, particularly Threads of Fatality. In what ways do you feel the band matured musically on this release?
We're still using the same writing process but we're more familiar with each others writing styles and ideas flow a lot easier. The songs are still progressive but there are more hard rock influences on Silent Script.
With wider U.S. availability and growing international recognition, what are the next steps for Veritas in establishing yourselves on the global metal stage?
We are nearing completion of our third cd and finally have a drummer for shows. We would love to play some festivals here in the US and overseas. We would like to thank all the fans, radio stations and media outlets for all the support we've gotten over the years!
