As 2025 draws to a close, Russian extreme metal band VIRGIN’S BLOOD OF ČACHTICE present their new single “The Black Man.” Released to mark the 100th anniversary of the death of Sergey Yesenin, the track fuses uncompromising Blackened Death Metal with the thoughts and poetry of one of Russia’s greatest literary figures.
Rather than indulging in nostalgia, VIRGIN’S BLOOD OF ČACHTICE demonstrate how timeless and alive the questions posed by the poet a century ago still are. In an era of digital noise, social fragmentation, and new forms of anxiety, the theme of an inner “double” — a figure that judges and destroys the self — sounds disturbingly familiar and painfully relevant. Avoiding literal illustration, the band offers a sonic parallel instead: metal music as a medium for expressing what Yesenin once called “the black message.”
